11.30.2006 - Below left: JMC student Andrew Venegas asks Skype Journal editor Phil Wolff (on screen) a question via Skype during Tuesday night's Journalism 163 class. Below right: J163 instructor (and JMC alum) Steve Sloan talks with Wolff, who is visible on Sloan's computer screen as well as projected onscreen.

Jour 163, an experimental class this semester, has focused on studying and using web 2.0 technologies such as blogging, podcasting, videocasting and RSS, in addition to basic web page design and multimedia. Here's a link to the 163 class blog.

11.30.2006 - P.S. While Editor Phil Wolff was talking to the Journalism 163 class via Skype and computer screen projection, a photographer from the Chronicle of Higher Education was there to photograph it all.

Watch for Fred Mertz's photos and perhaps a story on the class in a future issue.

10.27.2006 - The NPPA at SJSU is putting on a photographers boot camp of sorts this Saturday, starting at 8AM. The event is free for anyone to attend. More information can be found here, at the NPPA website.

10.3.2006 - This page was designed for faculty, staff, and students to post news and gossip about life at SJSU.

Remember the Good Ol' Days?

Yes, the good ol' days, whenever that was. For me, technology has usually defined "good."

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, I was experimenting with the new capabilities of computers, especially Macintosh. I can remember day after day being astounded by seeing what they could do.
Does anyone remember those hypercard quizzes I created? I still have them, but don't use them. It turned out they had the lifespan of unprocessed meat.
But, oh, the initial thrill of seeing them sizzle in class!
